The wait is over! Link to pre-patched version 1.4!:

I don't have much to say at the moment due to mental fatigue, but of course I wanna give a huge thanks to James White for the massive amount of spritework that went into this version, Jackimus for a bunch of incredibly awesome songs, and Madsiur for various coding advents! Also, Tenkarider for doing such a thorough playthrough and catching many, many issues. I really and truly appreciate the time invested into this project and the help it received to get it where it is now. It's a pleasure knowing and working with you guys!

Please read the updated readme/credits for the exact specifications. Take a look at the change log included as well if you played previously:

So this version took much longer than anticipated, but hopefully it is well worth it and I pray that it is bug free compared to 1.3. As always report any bugs or whatever and let us know how it goes, please. I kinda hurried up the actual release part of this, so I hope I got everything taken care of, I'm kinda brain dead here atm from testing for 12 hours straight. If anyone has trouble patching, contact me and I'll take care of it.

Now that this is out, I will focus on other related things like a spc soundtrack, and various info's and documents etc. Maybe some side patches along the way if little things get done for it. I will not be working on another big version for quite some time I'd imagine, so I will just fix little issues that might come up and kick back and enjoy playing and watching others play the game finally. =)

Thanks,

Happy Halloween, have fun!

So as we know, there was a horrible freezing bug in battle when Cloud or Ronan would gain a new skill after level up, all I can say is MY BAD! I fixed it up as well as a highly embarrassing spelling error on the splash screen, and re-uploaded the hack/patches to the same links. So if anyone who downloaded version 1.4 anytime before today (11-02-2015), please download again! All links are updated correctly.

I also changed a couple tiny other things that I forget to do upon releasing the hack, but they aren't worth mentioning really. Anyways please let me know how it goes now, or anything else that hopefully won't come up!

Thanks.

Yessir that is correct, 1.4.1 is now the current version, and it will say that when you fire up the ROM there at the bottom with the ROM info.

So far so good with it, too. No horrible issues reported thus far *crosses fingers*.

On the Lethe river after you grab the first chest you cannot reboard the raft

Did you patch the ROM yourself or download the pre-patched one I linked here?

http://rotds.webs.com/apps/forums/topics/show/13056152-rotds-general-discussion-etc-?page=last

^Someone else reported this issue and I can't explain it other than it seems to be an issue with the ROM it was patched to, probably a v1.1 FF3 ROM, or a patch over a previous rotds version. Still awaiting his response which might help clear things up. It says in the readme which is the correct FF3 ROM to patch to, any others will cause issues like this I'm sure, seems data is corrupted.

Try downloading for the link I posted for the pre-patched one and that should solve up the issue.

Yeah that wrong color in the save screen is a known issue, characters that use palette 6 (normally unused for playable characters) will not be colored right in the save screen, as well as a couple other places like shops and a couple maps. Sadly this a consiquence of using the palette 6 and is one of those incredibly complicated things to fix and doesn't look like it will be anytime soon.

Thanks for the heads up and I have checked out the game ^_^"

I have not play FF6 in a long while, but this game sure ramps up the difficulty.

Any tips you can give me/someone who has not used this battle system in a long while ?

So far, I have been using save states to stay alive and progress through the game.

Yeah it is tougher than the original for sure. There is a walkthrough on this site that was being put together, but a lot has changed since then....

James has started a playthrough of sorts that so far covers the beggining bosses, if that may help:

http://www.ff6hacking.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=2977

And also another playtrough here tenkarider did:

They can be used as a guide I'm sure. Only thing I would say is remember you can put your party members in the back row to reduce damage, and...I really aint got nothing at the moment to help, sorry >_< Hopefully someone else can be more helpful in that regard!

Okay, good to hear I am not alone in thinking this game is a bit more difficult.

I will check out these older playthroughs and would you say the 1.4.1 version is more challenging than the previous releases ?

Yes, I have been making use of the "Row" mechanic...but some enemy group focus only on my healer.

I use the knight relic to try and keep them alive, but triple attacks usually shave off 200+ HP.

Most battles I have to end up running away from if i run out of revive and healing items.

Currently at the Monk mountains at level 11...once i run out of items I save state and try to run away.

* otherwise it is a game over *

This latest version is a bit more balanced (easier) than the previous ones. It is supposed to be pretty tough, but definitly doable. Gotta search around for treasures and stack gold to get enough items and good equipment of course, you're about at the right level for that part, wouldn't hurt to be about 13 though. Hope you make it over the mountain!

It was a little patch over the 1.3 rotds rom, instead of a fresh install. I tried that to a 1.0 clean version and it fixed the Lethe river error. If that helps at all. Also, is there any use in the game for the 'dry bones' rare item? I can't seem to figure that out. Otherwise I loved this hack. It was a a ton of fun, I just got the no encounter item so I I think I am going to see how far I can take a low level new game plus.

Break, if you search in YouTube a guy named Lancer did a blind play through (albeit an earlier version). I used it a few times to figure out where a couple peeps in the wor were.

Congratz on beating the game man!

v1.4.2 is ready to go here:

http://www.mediafire.com/download/vtt9w97c4nplly0/RotDS+v1.4.2.smc

Change Log:

1.4.2

- fixes a possible freeze in the WoR Auction House.

- fixes an issue with the Metal Gear enemy in Glow City. (couldn't run away)

- fixed up many formation moulds that looked glitchy on accurate emulators - I had to remove the bat monster from the Guard Leader battle, and a couple other monsters here and there in order to not cause a bad glitchy mould.

- black Orchid Corporation is now just Black Orchid Empire, no more 'Corporation'.

- brought back 2 pieces of equipment that were unintentionally removed.

- touched up Piranha Plant Lullaby song. (Arc's Theme, some notes were too short)

- touched up Airships song and WoB overworld song bassline. (thanks be to Jackimus!)

- changed up a few Colosseum bets/prizes.

- switched up a few more monsters sprites.

- Ultros's HP does not refresh anymore for the Opera House battle.

- Ultros no longer has soma drops to steal from the Opera House battle.

- put back random encounters (with unique monster) in WoR Figaro Castle Engine Room.

- fixed Aurora, Tifa, & Eiko's natural magic learning via level-up back to working.

- fixed a spelling issue with the monster spell: Animate Dead.

- fixed up an inconsistency with the sleeping soldier when rescuing Tifa.

- swapped out the Float status Relic Reaper comes with so his class name will show.

- renamed the Reflect??? Lore to Anti-Reflect.

- made easier a bit the monsters in the Odin flashback event.

- Golbez can no longer leave with an esper at the end of the Floating Continent.

Cool, going to start over with v1.4.2 !!

After watching some youtube videos, it appears that I missed a lot of hidden items at the begining of the game.

* which might be the reason i kept dying during random encounters *

Then again, I could just be bad at this game ?

I'm stuck on the skull bosses right after escaping from the factory, where Otis is in the party for the first time.  I have no idea how to beat them.

I followed the hint to freeze them, but no matter what I do I can't seem to kill them.  Every time I knock down one of their HP to 0, it just resets back to full, whether the boss is frozen or not.  I tried spamming ice magic on one, but nothing else seemed to happen and the boss unfroze on its own (it wasn't even unfrozen by the other boss that time).  I tried freezing both of them at once, but nothing seems to happen then either.  Even worse, I had Oboro and he ditched me right before the fight, so I have to take it on with three characters.

At this point, I'm fairly stumped, so I would really appreciate it if someone could let me know how to get past this so I can enjoy the rest of the game.  I'm currently on v1.4.2, though I started the game on v1.4.1 and used the same save file after patching with the newest version (was it okay to do that or will that cause issues?).

Other than that, I've really enjoyed this hack so far and it seems greatly improved over older versions.  The music selections are fun and the balance seems to be much better than the older versions overall, though I did run into a few bosses that seemed to have way too much HP (Opera House Ultros took forever to beat, though I think I was on v1.4.1 at the time).  It's been an enjoyable experience so far and I'm looking forward to the rest, as soon as I can get past these skulls.
